It's finally here! For everyone to see! Dani and I are both sorry that it's like... four to five days late! Dani's been rather busy lately so whenever you get the chance, give her a warm hug or a "Thanks"! :3 It'd be appreciated. For all those blood-craving sickos, the violence doesn't start here. X3 It's just an introduction chapter but an entertaining one! Hope all of you enjoy!
Sinuyan – The Yans’ story
Chapter 1 – Private Shack
“Yes, yes… I know. I know! I got it. Look, I’ve got to go. I’ll see you arou- yes, I love you too. See you.” Jeb takes the over-sized phone away from her ears and holds it out in front of her, fiddling away at it trying to end the call, while her body sways from side to side due to the motion of the taxi.
“Who was that?” Seth asks.
“Ugh. It was my mother asking why I haven’t been emailing her lately. She’s so damn overprotective, I swear.”
“I’m overprotective.” Seth looks at Jeb with a wide grin on his face and raised eyebrows, hinting at something only Jeb could translate. She can’t help but laugh and gently push him away to stop herself from giggling and squeaking.
The taxi Jeb and Seth are riding in bumbles down a dirt road, the area around them cluttered with pine trees and wildlife. Jeb slips the phone into her black hoodie’s pocket before looking outside of the window, the unfamiliar land putting her into a trance filled with curiosity and admiration for the beautiful nature. Wyoming is a truly beautiful state.
The forest is well away from any sort of civilization, about a 45 minute drive from the outskirts of the nearest town. It’s a hot and humid day, with no cloud in sight. The forest around them is packed densely with pines, birch and cottonwood trees. Sagebrush and grass cover whatever dirt is left uncovered.
The taxi slowly comes to a halt and both Jeb and Seth look questioningly towards the front of the car. The driver looks back at them, and reaches up towards his brown baseball cap that reads “U of W Cowboys” across the front. Jeb notes that it matches his attire of faded jeans and dusty shirt.
“This is as far as I can go. The road up ahead has a lot of pot holes and fallen trees. This junker isn’t going to make it if I continue. I’ll give you a 15% discount off your tab for the inconvenience.” He takes off his cap, showing off his almost bald head.
“Here.” He pushes his cap towards Jeb. Jeb nods her head and takes some cash from Seth, and puts in into the mans’ cap. The driver puts his cap back on, the dollars still inside. “Thank you, and sorry I can’t go further!” Jeb smiles towards him as a good-bye, and opens the door. The fresh air immediately fills the car, with the pine trees adding a loving scent to it. Jeb and Seth take their luggage out of the trunk; two big red suitcases and two small blue backpacks, one for each.
“Ok then, Seth! How far do we have to walk?” Jeb closes the trunk and takes Seth’s hand, the couple walking along the side of the road, as the taxi makes a U-turn and clunks away.
“I don’t think it’s far, just ten minutes away,” Seth replies. Jeb starts combing her long brown straight hair with her fingers, trying to make it look at least presentable for her friends.
“Perfect! Do you remember how long we’re staying for? I’ve talked to Sinuyan; it’s a beautiful spot for a house apparently. He called it a shack though, so…”
Seth fiddles with his suede brown fedora, making it sit more comfortably on his head. “I’m sure it’s not what you think.” Seth’s fedora hides his dark brown curly hair that Jeb adores. As a symbol, Seth has green eyes on the top staring widely ahead, seemingly just as excited to arrive at this new place as its owner is.
The walk is quiet, but not awkward. The sounds of birds and squirrels nearby seem to fit in the slot perfectly for them. Jeb lets out a small sigh, after only a few minutes her feet are already getting tired. The humidity has taken its toll on both of them. Seth, more concerned about his girlfriend, tilts his head slightly as he asks, “You alright?”
“Mhm… I’m fine. Don’t worry. I think the shack is just up ahead anyway.”
“Yep! I can see it, just over there! Wow, it’s big.” Seth stands on the tip of his toes to look through the trees, the house barely visible through them. The red bricks stood out against the green backdrop of the forest. The roof brought a contrast to it as well; slanted and covered with black tiles. Seth continues, “Doesn’t look like a shack from here. Looks more like a three-story house.”
“Huh… If this is a shack, I wonder what Sinuyan’s idea of a home is,” Jeb wondered aloud.
“Mansion?”
“Probably.”
As the two get closer and closer, the dense forest seems to slowly disappear until they finally get to a clearing where the huge house sits. From what they can see, the house has two, maybe three stories, brick walls, and the front quarter of the house is supported by a platform held up by brick columns. The rest of the house sits on a medium-sized hill. The front door opens out onto a beautiful wooden porch, stairs leading to it from the ground. Most of the many windows dotting the front view of the house are blocked by curtains- some black, some green.
“Wow… This looks nice!” Jeb says in awe.
“Does it?” Seth says, leading his girlfriend up the stairs until they reach the door. Jeb prepares her fist to knock the wooden door, but before she can even get her arm ready the door swings open to reveal Sinuyan standing inside with a mug in his hand. He is clothed in very formal wear, a collared white buttoned shirt with blazer, long black trousers, and polished black shoes.
“Looking nice today, Sinu.” Jeb notes.
“Haha, thank you! Glad you could make it. Please, come inside, most of the Yans are already here!” Jeb and Seth walk inside, carrying their heavy luggage in with them. Sinuyan offers to help, but both deny his generosity. When they step in, they’re immediately greeted with a warm flow of air coming from the fireplace in the other room, the warm red coloured walls giving the foyer a nice sort of glow to it.
In the room right of the foyer is the living room, packed with black leather furniture, a black shag rug and a wide plasma television on the wall, equally as black, but with a white trim. A very modern room, considering where the house is located. The other side of the foyer is the kitchen. The floor is covered in white tiles, the counters a matching black granite as well, outlining the wall, with a large rectangular table sitting in the middle with plenty of swivel stools tucked around it.
The style of the house suits the theme easily; outside being somewhat country and warm with a hint of black and white from the curtains showing through the windows. Coming in from the brick exterior to the modern inside, feels like the wardrobe to Narnia, albeit everted. Seth immediately takes a seat on the black leather couch, a few Yans immediately coming to greet him with smiles and handshakes. Meanwhile, Jeb follows Sinu to the kitchen as he finishes making his tea. Sinuyan looks over to her as he pours in the water. “So… Nice trip over here?”
“Sinu, how on earth have you afforded a place like this!? In such a beautiful area too! It’s stunning!” Jeb exclaims.
“Ah, that’s a secret that I shall reveal later. In the meantime, help yourself to a seat in the living room! Dinner will be served shortly.”
Jeb starts walking to the bustling lounge.“Nice, what’s for dinner?”
“Uh… Pizza.” He chuckles and turns back to the bench, Jeb rolling her eyes with a small grin, not expecting anything different from Sinuyan. She sits down on one of the empty black leather recliners. Dani stands up, walks behind Jeb and rests her arms on the top of the armchair. “Hey Jeb!” She says excitedly.
“Hey Dani!”
“How was the trip?”
“We took a taxi, it wasn’t too bad!” Dani looks down at the phone in Jeb’s hand, curious, as her long, slightly wavy dirty blonde hair falls between Jeb’s face and her phone, causing her to look up in slight annoyance. “Oi! Do you mind keeping your hair curtain to yourself?” Jeb jokes. Dani laughs and stands up straight.
“I’m sorry! My hair has a mind of its own, don't you know? Anyway, you might want to put your stuff away, we’re going to have a meeting in here after dinner.” Jeb nods and gets up from the chair, leaving Dani to disappear into the small group. Some Yans were sitting on the floor watching baseball on the television, others socialising on the big three seat couch.
Jeb looks around before grabbing her luggage, examining the six Yans around her. Four females, two males. Not exactly even, but she thinks that the guys wouldn’t mind, especially Brian. He’s currently single, but not too bad looking; black smooth hair, brown eyes. He wears a black jacket that Jeb has seen him wear quite frequently over long sleeved and short sleeved tops. He sports casual jeans and white running shoes, seemingly ready to join the baseball game on the screen at any moment. He has a casual but good looking form, not that Jeb is the slight bit interested at all, already having a partner.
Her Seth wears a red, long-sleeved buttoned coat that goes a little bit further below his waist as well as long red trousers, just to match the colour. Jeb walks over to him getting ready to carry their bags upstairs. “Hey!" Jeb calls out. "I’m not carrying your luggage to our room too, get up!”
“Aww…” Seth giggles as Jeb helps him up off the comfortable looking couch, especially more comfy because of the long tiring walk over.
Jeb yawns and picks up her suitcase and bag, walks into the foyer, and turns away from the front door towards the stairs. After hulking the large bags up a flight, Jeb and Seth start walking down the upstairs hallway to the door marked “Jeb and Seth” at the end of the hall. The hallway was coloured red, just like the foyer. In the middle of the hall, something caught Jeb’s eye. It was a framed picture of all the Yans as small little cartoons. Jeb smiles as she looks at her cartoon self; small, smiling, long black shirt, long black pants, just how she dresses in real life. Her glasses with a leopard print seem to be on her cartoon as well, seemingly staring at Jeb with an expression she could not place. Seth calls for her attention further down the hall and Jeb wanders over to him, not able to take her eyes off the trophy of an art until she follows her boyfriend into their small room.
Seth closes the door behind her and opens up a dark wooden cupboard, immediately shoving his whole suitcase inside, not bothering to unpack until tomorrow. Jeb looks around the room, this time the walls having been painted with a sort of golden color, with a dark bronze tint. A mini-chandelier hangs over the queen sized bed, belonging to Jeb and Seth. The carpet matches the color of the walls, with dressers and wardrobes filling the room. “Wow…” Jeb mutters, almost tripping over the rug under her feet as she admires her new bedroom. “This is, just… wow!”
“Amazed are we?” Seth smiles and hugs Jeb from behind, catching her by surprise, causing her to jump a few centimetres in the air. After a quick scolding from Jeb, they begin unpacking their bags. Seth has extra packed in his bag, because of a disorder in which he cannot eat normally. This requires lots of medication and IV’s he has to take with him. Pseudo Intestinal Obstruction, rare but dangerous.
Back in the kitchen, Sinuyan swiftly cleans the kitchen for dinner, his mind wandering away as he keeps his company to himself, while faintly listening to all the commotion in the other room. In the living room, Brian claps his hands and shouts in appraisal as he watches the television, the batter of the local baseball team swinging his bat, pushing through the air to hit the baseball, sending it flying out of the field. Dani sits on the seat where Jeb had sat before and looks at Fire, sitting down on the floor beside her, nothing seen from Dani’s point of view except her blonde hair, parted to the side.
“So… What’s your room like?” Dani asks to get a friendly conversation going. “I’ve got a cool room; it’s like all the colours of fall! I love how this house is made, how every part of the house has its own theme. Really creative!”
“Autumn colours? Nice! I’ve got more winter colours, like white and a light grey. You know, cool colours. Oh, and a bit of light blue.” Fire details.
“Did you arrive here a day earlier? Sinu says you were like… the first one here!”
“Ha, first one. Nope, I think Brian was the first one actually.”
As Dani and Fire continue their conversation, Torrie and Tortie sit on the opposite ends of the couch facing each other, but neither are paying any attention to what’s around them, as they’re both on their mobile phones. Though every so often, you can hear a faint mumbling from Tortie, something about Off, but nobody could hear clearly. Their names are freakishly similar, but their personalities are quite different. Torrie was the non-talkative one, but still very brave, and not shy. Tortie is also quiet but talkative around peers, as well as having a wide sense of humour. Everybody seems content.
The doorbell is long and interrupting, and Sinuyan can be heard walking towards the door. Brian pulls his eyes away from the television. Dani and Fire looks towards Sinu, as well as Tortie and Torrie who, for the first time in awhile, look away from their phones, their fingers resting on the screens.
“Yans and Yans, the pizza is here! Start choosing your seats at the table.” Immediately Sinuyan opens the door, the delivery guy standing outside, still wearing his helmet from his motorbike ride over here. holding five boxes of pizza, the smell immediately filling the warm room. Everybody in the living room springs up and rushes past the front door into the kitchen, almost trampling each other to get there first. The pizza man stares into the house; eyes wide, mouth open as if he was just placed in a dream, the house being so other-worldly. He didn’t seem to mind the five teens running around screaming “I’ll beat you there!”
Sinuyan takes the pizza boxes and pays the delivery guy. He was hesitant to leave, but nodded his cap, and turned around to his bike. Sinuyan brought the boxes to the kitchen and set them on the kitchen table, trying to organize all the savage beasts trying to claw their way to getting a slice of their prey.
Each Yan takes a seat on one of the ten smooth, black stools that spin around, creating not just an average place to sit but also a great and free place to get a person sick. Sinuyan takes his seat at the head of the table, and all of the Yans immediately start feasting away, without the use of plates, using the boxes instead to hold any bitten and claimed pizzas. Everyone was stuffing their face full of cheesy, saucy goodness when Dani mutters out, with her mouth still full, “Mwerrs Seth mm Mem?”
“Haha, what?” Fire laughs with the rest of the Yans, having no idea what that mumbled jargon was supposed to mean.
Dani, after swallowing the bite in her mouth, replied, “I said, ‘Where’s Seth and Mince?’”
“I thought Jeb didn’t like pizza,” Brian adds.
Nobody seemed to be offering to go grab either of the two missing Yans, so Torrie stopped eating for a moment to pipe up, “Huh. Well, I think she should at least be here. I’ll go get her, I guess.”
“Great! Thanks Torrie!” Dani replies, still munching away at the pizza that is very quickly disappearing from the still warm boxes, heating up the black table.
Torrie gets out of her seat and starts towards the stairs. Walking down the hallway, Torrie notes the area is dimly lit by only a small little light near the end, coming from the window that views the backyard, nothing really much to see besides more forest. She takes a short glance at the drawing Jeb noticed earlier, but having already seen it makes it less interesting, but still pretty to look at.
She knocks twice on the couple’s door as she speaks loudly, “Hey, you two! Dinner’s here.” Torrie rests the side of her head against the door to listen in, not being rude, just curious. She hears rustling as Jeb stumbles around the room. She opens the door with a big jerk causing Torrie to fall forward a little, but quickly regains her balance.
“Woah, steady there!” Torrie, now standing upright, looks at Jeb, her hair all rustled and messy. She’s wearing a sort of loose, dark purple night gown with a black rim around the top and bottom, the length of the gown reaching just below her knees.
Jeb tries to clean up her hair with her fingers but fails as she causes even more knots to form. “Uh, hey! I’m sorry. It’s hot in my room. Can you tell the others that I won’t be able to eat tonight? I’m sorting out Seth’s medical stuff right now.” Jeb takes the side of the door and slowly starts to close it, but Torrie holds her hand against it to stop her.
“Can’t you tell the Yans that yourself? It’d be nice, I mean, we all want to see you.”
Jeb thinks for a few moments, standing in the doorway, deciding whether to leave Seth to his own devices, or to even bother to get completely dressed again just to go downstairs. She makes up her minds and says, “Only a minute.”
“Thank you,” Torrie says, taking her hand off the door. She walks back down the hallway to the stairs with Jeb in tow. Jeb listens to the growing sound of laughter and conversation until she walks into the kitchen where the sound is completely clear and every conversation can be heard easily.
Jeb takes the element of surprise. “Hey guys!” Every Yan looks over to Jeb, a few startled from the sudden voice coming from the other side of the room. Torrie starts hungrily eating away again, hungrily missing her delicious pizza slice.
Dani laughs at herself for jumping at such a small thing, and puts the half-eaten pizza in her hand down on the small box being used as a plate. “What is this? Loose clothing… Easy access… What were YOU two getting up to, huh?” Dani jokes, winking.
Jeb’s not amused by Dani’s little joke. “Haha, so funny. But hey, I just came to say that I’ll be missing out on dinner tonight. Seth has medical stuff to do so I gotta help him. I’ll be an hour or so, but I’ll be able to finish in time for the meeting!”
Dani picks up on Jeb’s non-satisfactory tone, but ignores it. “An hour… It takes that long?” She lowers her voice so only Jeb can hear. “Heh, are you sure you don’t need any extra time? You’re probably using most of that time to have fun time with Seth. Don’t forget to use protection…!”
“Shut up,” Jeb responds, done with Dani’s antics, but laughs anyway because she expected it. She rests her body against the wall as she continues. “You’re so freaking hilarious. I don’t need it anyways, I’ve already had a surgery to prevent it. I hate kids. They’re… ugh.” Jeb takes a moment to scowl before she continues. “I don’t need protection so don’t worry, I won’t like, throw up on your bed, Dani.” Jeb shakes her head and disappears into the hallway.
“See you at the meeting!” Dani yells as Jeb walks away, loud enough so she can hear her, then mumbles under her breath, “You throw up on anything of mine you’re gonna get it!” She finishes her half-eaten pizza. In only a matter of minutes, two pizzas have already been devoured by the hungry vultures.
Time passes as the Yans finish eating and conversing. Dani, after eating her fill of cheese-triangles, gets up from her seat, lifts her dirty hands in the air, trying to not touch anything and spread the grease as she walks over to the sink, turning it on to rinse her messy fingers while most of the Yans do the same.
Brian jokes, “If I start hearing moaning coming from that bedroom… I will burst in, pick both of them up and throw them out the window.” Dani laughs, shutting off the tap and walking over to the table, helping to pick up the boxes with pizzas in them, putting them in the almost completely empty fridge for later.
The Yans joke around for a bit as they all clean themselves up and get into more comfortable clothing, removing any jackets or unwanted excess that would make an average person sweat, the house already hot enough from the fireplace that has been going for a while now. Sinuyan finishes washing his hands and turns off the tap, turns around and looks at the gathered Yans at the now clean table, with Jeb and Seth at the table as well, Jeb still in her very loose clothing.
“Alright, this meeting is extremely important. It’s why all of you Yans have been brought here! I’m going to show you all the basement, and inside the basement is something that none of you should tell ANYONE about. Understood?”
Most Yans nod, others approve with a ‘Yep’ or a ‘You can trust us!’
“Good.” Sinuyan smiles, showing a small bit of the whites of his teeth. “Now, all of you Yans, follow me!” They all get up and follow him in a sloppy line, looking like baby ducks following their mother. He leads them through the back hallway, turning the corner at the end down a set of stairs, the surroundings getting darker and darker until Sinu flicks a switch at the bottom. Several lights in the ceiling in the room swirl to life. There was only one giant room that made up the basement. It looks like not much renovation was done other than dirty dry wall and off-white carpet… but the style of the room is not what catches the Yan’s eyes.
In the center of the room sits a huge machine, reaching up to the ceiling. It sits on a big bulky metal platform with two metal rods on the side, with thin blue books of what seems like electricity going from one rod to the other, making it look like a sort of holographic door, but without a door handle or a solid barrier. Around the machine in a circle formation sits several control panels, the room suddenly looking extremely tech-like. There were blinking lights, levers and buttons smothering the panels, with the biggest flat screen tv anyone has ever seen, that takes up most of the back wall. It looks like something from a spaceship in a futuristic science fiction movie.
Tortie mutters under her breath, “Oh. My. Gosh.”
Sensing everyone's shock and surprise, Sinuyan speaks up. “This is the virtual reality game simulator teleporter! The V.R.G.S.T, or as I like to call it, the Virgest."
“The... Virgest?” Fire questions.
"Yeah, what kind of name is that?" Jokes Brian, coming in with Fire.
"Well, I thought it was cool..." says Sinuyan, somewhat disappointed. "Anyways, there's someone else here that I want you all to meet! Aakash… say hi to the Yans!” Sinuyan walks beside the teleporter, and Aakash walks out from behind it, previously unseen, and walks over to the opposite side of the machine that Sinuyan was on. He's wearing a long trench coat, with heavy black gloves, and fancy gadgets on both his wrists. Tall with short, black hair and dark skin, he looks just like an evil genius. He puts on an excited smile.
“Hello guys! This is the Virgest, she’s mine, I made her. She’s extremely delicate right now, not every bug is worked out yet, and I'm the only one that knows how to properly work her, so I don't want anyone to touch her-” He's interrupted by a dirty-minded Yan.
“Will she cry if I call her a virgin?” Jeb yells out from the group, catching weird looks from some of the rest. Dani laughs and playfully hits her on the back of the head, a sort of scolding for her dirty thoughts.
Aakash smiles even wider and clasps both hands together. “Well, probably! I did say she was very delicate. Now, a little bit about her. She's made of pure, organic iron imported from eastern Asia. Only the best de-iradiated zirconium was used for the conductor, and I imported the recycled plastic from..." He stopped when he noticed nobody was actively listening, instead being distracted by anything else that didn't have to do with science."Ahem... Anyways, her astrological sign is Virgo, she’s a Virologist and her idol is Virat Kohli the Indian cricketer. If you have any questions please ask me.” The Yans all giggle at the random information. Aakash points his finger to the beast of a machine beside him, admiring it himself as if he’d never seen it before. “This will lead you to any game created in all of mankind. I just have to download the game onto its hard drive and put it in the universal bus, the one sitting on the control panel right over there, and it's ready to go! It’s as simple as powering it up and sending as many people through as possible!”
“So… we came here to test it out I’m guessing?” Seth asks, already knowing the answer.
“Yes! We have several horror games that we want you guys to try out! Games like… SCP, Amnesia, and even Slender, if you're man enough. We can’t test them right now though, it takes a fair while to load up the map. Tonight’s meeting was just to show you guys what this is all about!”
“What happens if you die while in the game?” Torrie asks, the question puzzling every Yan.
“Ah, good question! It's not dangerous at all, I promise. First off, you’re not allowed to go into it without a friend. I call it the buddy system. You both have to try and win. If one of you die, you're knocked unconscious and are transported to the core of the game's code, call it Limbo if you want. When you get there, you're given an option to grab your buddy and leave the game, or edit until your buddy beats the game. If both of you die, its game over and you’re both sent back here. It's a bit complicated, but when you play for yourselves, it will make more sense. Any other questions?”
The Yans looks at each other before shaking their heads.
“Good! Now shoo, I have some more work to do before I go to bed."
"There's leftover pizza in the fridge for you when you get hungry, Aakash," Sinuyan says.
Aakash grins and thanks him before heading back to his chair to work on the machine.
Some Yans stay to examine the tech, while others walk back up and retreat to their rooms. Eventually, late night came, and whoever isn't already gone to bed is in the living room. The occasional laugh can be heard from downstairs as Dani, Tortie and Brian talk to Sinuyan and Aakash around the fireplace. Torrie and Fire are already in bed after having a long tiring day, and Jeb and Seth holding hands as they walk into their room.
Jeb sits down on the edge of the bed and rubs her eyes as she yawns, Seth crawling onto the bed, hugging her tightly and pulling her down so they’re both lying on the bed. Their heads sit comfortably on the golden covered pillows. Jeb takes a deep breath and sighs, “Today was a good day.”
Seth takes off his red jacket, revealing a thin grey top underneath. “It was,” he yawns back.
“I can’t wait till tomorrow…” Seth starts to cuddle his girlfriend, almost immediately falling asleep.
“Neither can I…” Jeb replies softly, both of them now asleep.
The night is peaceful for awhile, crickets heard from outside, with the occasional rustle of leaves as the wind passes by the house. It’s only in the early morning hours when the weather starts to pick up. A few things outside clatter against the house, a branch snapping in the strong winds, the Yans however remaining restful. Rains starts to heavily pour down on the house, with the occasional thunder clap far in the distance becoming louder and louder, until the storm is right on top of them.
The rain turned to pelting hail on the house. Some lighting strikes hit the house and surrounding power lines, and electrical units like the fridge and alarms switch off and on repeatedly. For some Yans the constant bad weather is quite soothing, sending them off into a deeper slumber. Other Yans cower frightened under their covers. Another strike hits the house, right in the antenna, but this was no regular lightning bolt. It traveled through all of the electric cords of the house, almost frying every electrical thing. But just as quickly it came, the bolt was gone into the ground seemingly not leaving a trace that it had ever happened. After a few hours of the storm, early in the morning, at five am, just when the sun is about to arrive, the weather calms down and the sound of the strong wind is replaced by birds, singing to the arrival of dawn.
