Note to readers: Due to sickness this was edited later than expected but as long as Dani doesn't get sick again the next chapter should be at your door soon! XD I might even have time to write some of it up at the airport or on the plane. :3
Chapter 5- Final burst
Jeb’s tears drop down onto the tiled floor below her, Sinu leaving her alone with Seth to drain a little as he himself heads up into the electricity room. Sinu can easily hear Jeb’s wailing downstairs, almost screaming as she mourns. Despite the room being filled with electronics and servers, the area is dark and seems quite small, Sinu lucky he doesn’t have claustrophobia. Even luckier is the fact that SCP 173 was nowhere to be found.
With great discomfort and trouble, Sinu wades through the thick darkness towards the small control panels on the other side, his arms outstretched in front of him to avoid walking into any unidentified objects. The tip of his foot bumps into one of the pillars leading from the floor to the roof, covered in mass amounts of cables and wires. He closes his eyes, looks down and takes a deep breath.
Sinu suddenly flinches, hearing the sound of an object being thrown from below, probably Jeb in her unstable state. Seth can also be heard trying to calm her down. Although Seth is very sensitive, he’s usually able to handle traumatic experiences and get over them fairly quickly unless it’s absolutely severe. Sinu shakes his head, shrugging off his fear, once again slowly getting through to the next objective.
“Get a hold of yourself, we can’t have you breaking down!” Flashbacks suddenly pop into Sinu's desperate mind.
“She’s... not here anymore.”
“Why..."
“Do you think it hurt?” Sinu shakes his head to snap out of his mental daze.
Sinu stops, unable to move, staring into the darkness, no movement from his eyes, no twitching of his fingers. His hands supporting his weight on the controls, palms pushed down onto the switches with anger. His body remains in place, frozen, like the attribute of the monster that threatens his fate forever, his friends, and his life. Sinu’s hand suddenly morphs into a fist, with which he slams against the wall, creating a large hole, with little pieces crumbling and forming as dust and mulch on the ground. His knuckles ache but he shows no pain, not a wince, nor a flinch.
He wants to yell. He wants to scream. He wants the nightmare to end. Sinu screams out, “Fire!! You freaking idiot! WHY!” A tear drop slides down Sinu’s cheek as the entirety of the situation overwhelms him. He mutters softly, “Curse you… curse you…” He’s filled with sadness, fear but now mostly rage as he eyes the control panel. With adrenaline running through his veins, he flicks back on the lights and turns on the door control before sprinting downstairs, to which he finds Seth cuddling Jeb on the ground; Jeb with her eyes closed, appearing almost asleep, finally peaceful. Jeb’s instability continues to threaten her mind, her dreams corrupted with the objects that cause her fear and pain. Seth gently strokes her sides, her arms, her cheeks.
Sinu breathes slowly but deeply through his nose, and quickly exhales. “Let’s go guys, I know this is hard, but we’re almost done. We just need to get to Gate-”
A nearby radio is heard. Not music, but a voice. Sinu looks left and right, listening in for the source. It’s coming from the room next door, luckily not in the direction they need to head. Sinu bites his lip and quickly looks back down at Jeb. He crouches and yells in a whispered-shout. “Jeb! Seth! We need to go, right now! Unless you want to lose each other, then we need to go. The MTF are right behind that door.”
Sinuyan leaps up from the ground and leads the couple out, leaving Fire’s cold body lying on the floor, simply not existing anymore, the only trace of her now just a deleted data file in the trash bin on the supercomputer. Seth decides to carry his girlfriend, having no luck trying to get her to walk. He doesn’t mind though, he actually enjoys the warm feeling of her body and the gentle strokes and caresses as Jeb fiddles with his shirt, trying to make her thoughts think elsewhere than the depths of a long puzzling forbidden memory of a loss.
“Where the heck are we going?” Brian glances behind him, seeing the MTF in the room behind them creates chills down his spine, causing him to run faster, Dani and Torrie by his side.
“And how did you even know they were there!?” Dani looks at her with a puzzled face, although it is quite hypocritical to say such a thing when the mutation inside her allows her to make objects levitate.
Torrie shakes her head. “I don’t know! I’m glad you guys trusted me though.” A bullet suddenly whizzes past Dani’s ear. She screams and quickly reacts by looking down, her hands over her ears, trying to run as fast as she can in that position without tripping. They run faster, only looking up once they reach a corner, out of the sight and aim of the MTF. Torrie points up ahead. “Guys, the tesla gate!”
Brian swears, “DAMMIT!! I forgot we had to go back through here!!”
“Oh god, you two, quickly go through! I’ll create a distraction!” Dani yells as she scrambles through her pockets, pulling out her gas mask. Brian reaches the gate, running so fast that he almost runs straight into the shock that buzzes between the two walls, creating a loud vibrating sound that echoes through the halls, as loud as the footsteps of the heavy boots getting closer and closer. Brian measures the counts and sweeps through the gate. Torrie hesitates, memories flooding her mind as she misses her chance to go through the gate. Dani throws the gas mask across the room, managing to successfully get a good distance.
A few soldiers run towards the gas mask, examining it as Dani takes the opportunity to breeze to the other side, unknowingly leaving Torrie behind. She stands near the gate, held back by the electric barrier. Bang. Her eyes suddenly widen, blood dripping from her stomach. She drops on her two knees and collapses into the gate, the electricity buzzing at almost the same volume as the gun that had fired. Torrie’s body violently shakes but is lifeless as her limbs and torso are shocked by the gate. Dani turns around just as the scene unfolds in front of her, and she screams and turns away, her hands over her ears once again. As Torrie’s body falls, she reveals the three MTF soldiers behind her, guns in hand, pointing directly towards the two Yans.
Brian quickly opens the door. Shots are fired, and Dani dashes through the door as fast as she can, not stopping for anything, unable to even stop and wait for Brian who narrowly escapes the rounds of bullets, barely missing his sides and head. He quickly shuts the door and follows Dani, trying to keep up as best as he can. Dani screams, “Get to the gate! For gods sake, just get to the gate!”
Despite both of them sprinting as fast as humanly possible, Brian notices her crying, her tears dripping onto the floor, forming a barely noticeable trail of shiny dots displayed on the white tiles that seem to haunt every room of the facility. The tiles were already filling her thoughts with nightmares; flashbacks to blood dripping onto their bodies, to where Jeb falls, her hair soaked in the red dye, to Tortie’s screams, to blood splattering the walls.
“MAKE IT STOP!” Dani cries out.
“No!” Sinu screams, his hands on his head as his eyes dart left and right, the scene in front of him revealing the gassy “red-room” in front of him. Seth looks down and doesn’t say a word. Jeb sniffs. “We have to go through, don’t we?”
Sinu simply nods and puts on his gas mask. “You two, close your eyes, hang onto me and don’t let go.” He mutters through the heavily voice-affecting gear.
Seth shakes his head. “173 is in there, isn’t he…?”
“I- ...yeah, he is.”
Jeb grasps onto Sinu’s shirt, Seth still carrying his loved one, all of them bonded by a few fingers that will mean the difference between life and death, just a few bones and skin. Sinu looks up to the screen, his eyes showing a mixture of bravery and hate.
He says under his breath, “Okay, keep your eyes shut.”
Seth and Jeb nod, following orders. Sinuyan walks towards the button and presses it, quickly blinking before running towards the open room, the red light casting creepy shadows of the group, Jeb and Seth tailing behind him. As Sinu enters the room, gas fills his vision but he manages to get a good lock on SCP-173, standing in the corner of the room, face to the wall.
Seth shivers uncontrollably, and Jeb’s afraid of being dropped. Sinu continues running, keeping his eyes on SCP-173 and as he exits, keeping his eyes on the doorway until the door closes. After a few seconds, Sinu finally takes off the gas mask that had been heating up his face quite quickly. “We made it. We made it! Guys, we’re going to make it!” He smiles and hugs both Seth and Jeb before continuing. “The Gate is just ahead! Come on, let’s go!” Jeb and Seth both note the enthusiasm in his voice that they had so longed for and missed.
The trio walk down another hallway, past another bathroom and into a large room that separates into four different paths. Sinu looks around. “SINU!” Dani screams. Sinu points his attention to his left, and his eyes immediately go wide, as he sees Dani pelting towards him at full-sprint till she practically glomps him to the ground. He stutters, “Hey, easy there!” Then he notices her distraught face. “What’s going on? Are you alright?”
“THE MTF!”
She points behind her, Brian quickly shutting the door and saying, “She’s right, they’re coming and we need to go rig-”
The buzz is heard again. Aakash’s breathing can be heard through the speakers. That, or it’s the sound of an ambient wave. The sound of a small crumble, a small crackle as the floor below Brian becomes darker and darker. “Guys, you’re so close…”
Sinu gasps, Brian looking down at the blackening floor, frozen from fear.
“Just a few more rooms ahead!”
A black hand reaches outwards from the ground, reaching out for Brian’s leg. Sinu runs towards Brian and grabs a hold of his arm. “Brian! NO!!”
“Gate B is open! You have to go NOW!” Aakash exclaims.
Seth and Jeb don’t wait as they lead Dani towards the gate as fast as possible, Sinu still attempting to pull Brian out of SCP-106’s grip. “BRIAN! FIGHT BACK! COME ON!”
Brian keeps still, stuck in between two pulling forces that make his shoulder and leg ache.
“Don’t make any rash decisions! Please!” Aakash yells one more time, the signal cutting off.
“I’m NOT giving up on him, Aakash! Not while I can still do something!” Sinu continues to pull on Brian’s arm, his leg now sinking into the ground, pulling the weight onto him. “PLEASE! BRIAN!” Sinu yells in front of him, Brian reaching for his arm as well, not wanting to suffer such a slow, torturous fate in the Pocket Dimension. “Sinu don’t let me go! Don’t let me be dragged in there!” Sinu and SCP-106 fight one another for a few more seconds until 106 grabs Brian’s entire upper body and forcefully pulls him away from Sinu, and their hands get torn away. The MTF are heard from the other room, and Sinu notices and glances at the door the others went through.
“B-Brian… I… “
He shakes his head, bounds to his feet and races to the Gate, leaving Brian left alone with both the MTF and 106. The sound of bullets bounding from one wall to the other was echoing down the halls, following by haunting screams, which are suddenly cut off as Brian is dragged into the decomposed crevice, already shot and dying.
Dani’s mood and mental state hasn’t brightened as she and the couple continue to run towards the exit, their feet aching but minds longing for the relief of freedom and emotional stability. “Guys, stop!” Jeb yells. Dani gags suddenly as Jeb grabs onto the back of her shirt collar, reeling her to a full stop, the two almost falling over each other from the sudden pause in force. Dani turns to face Jeb and shakes her head, “What the fuck! We’re almost there! Are you insane!? WHY ARE WE STOPPING!?” Dani’s almost screaming now, but Jeb quivers in fear, letting go of her friend and backing away.
Dani’s eyes fill with tears once again as she follows Jeb’s gaze back around to the door ahead. “I don’t believe it...”
“SETH STOP I SAID!” Jeb yells out. Before anyone can do anything, the Yans are put in a life and death situation once again. With the door open, Seth stands in the doorway, with SCP-173 holding him mid-neck break, with its concrete hands wrapped around Seth’s throat so tightly it threatens to cut off his oxygen.
Jeb screams, “Seth! WHY! I was about to tell you to not open the door! I said stop because 173 was behind it! SETH!” She cries and walks over to him, not caring that a monster is just a foot in front of her. Dani has her hands over her mouth, trying to deny the sudden event, trying not to blink, although unsure if that will save her or not. Seth whimpers hard, crying as he struggles to breathe. “Seth! Please, oh god no, SETH! Don’t die! I can’t do this!!” Jeb’s face is wet and red, her eyes wide open with fear, the fear of being alone. Maybe alone forever. The fear of losing someone you love, of never loving again. The fear of death.
Jeb’s voice goes eerily calm. “You know how I said I wasn’t afraid of death…?”
Seth grasps onto the arm that keeps him held to 173’s concrete body, and turns his head ever so slightly to look at his girlfriend with horribly sad eyes.
“I… I meant my own death. I never said I wasn’t afraid of you dying.” Seth lets out a long cry, like a little bird lost without his mother.
Dani walks towards Jeb and places her hand on his shoulder. “Jeb… we can’t keep him here like this, and we can’t stay-”
“Get off me!” She yells at Dani who immediately backs away, the tables now turned.
“I’m sorry!!” She squeals and raises her hands in submission.
“I… I’m not leaving Seth.”
Sinu walks into the room, spotting SCP-173, and he shakes in place, his heart feeling as though it just sunk to the bottom of his stomach. “Seth…? Jesus...” He mutters.
“SETH!” Jeb screams again and gently places her hands on the sides of Seth’s head, her hands not able to keep still, she gently kisses his forehead before kissing her loved one’s tears that drench his skin.
Dani looks down and closes her eyes. “Sinu… get to the exit.”
“But Dani… You’ve got to-”
“GET TO THE EXIT! Just, please.” She shouts.
“I… Gaaah, I love you guys… I’ll make this up to you, I promise!” He shakes his head, and unable to say another word he runs out of the room towards Gate B. Dani nods and shuts all the doors in the room, and a few seconds later, Sinu can hear a scream, belonging to Jeb. She slowly shuts Seth’s eyes, gasping and choking on her own breath, not in the hands of SCP-173, yet still feeling as though she were dying.
Jeb continues to cry, tears filling her eyes until she’s blind. SCP-173 grabs onto her neck and sharply twists it, the snapping sound causing Dani to wince. Sinu faces the gate in front of him, his shoes making a scraping sound against the floor as he scrambles to press the button. In only a second, she experiences the worst pain of her life. The MTF appear at the door behind Dani, automatically opening the door between Sinu and her. Guns are loaded and pointed at Sinu as he takes one step through the doorway, his legs feeling like jelly from the anticipation and emotional pain. The only physical pain left to be felt was by Dani, as many of her ribs are broken by the bullets from the MTF, firing still as she’s held up by 173. By a split second of blindness by all who were watching, 173 grasps onto her neck, the rough texture rubbing harshly against her skin till her eyes roll back and her head hangs loose. Sinu presses the button to the gate and crosses into the white blanket. He looks back at the MTF, expecting to be shot by now, but instead seeing a bloody ghostly figure in front of him, blood dripping onto the white tiles as the bones strike through and out of her, An unknown body blocking off the bullets meant for him as his body begins to morph into nothing but a line of code, Sinu winning SCP: Containment Breach.
Sinuyan looks around, seeing the familiar basement in which Aakash worked for more than a year. Sinu stutters while panting. “A-Aakash?” He finds him standing in front of him, dressed in his lab coat. They embrace each other with a long strong hug, Aakash giving him an occasional pat on the back, neither of them saying anything, until...
“Yans…?” Sinuyan looks around the room to see all of his loyal followers lying on the ground alive. Some are relaxed with their eyes closed, others with eyes wide open, still in shock from all the previous events that had happened in only 7 hours. Seth and Jeb are cuddling each other, not letting go of each other, not moving.
Fire and Torrie are lying down with their eyes closed, their deaths probably the quickest ones. Brian is on his hands and knees staring at the floor, not entirely sure whether the floor tiles were safe or not. Tortie and Dani are sitting, Dani has her head on her knees, arms wrapped around her legs keeping herself in a safe and comfortable position, Tortie sitting with her legs crossed, looking towards the wall, her mind almost in a different world as she can’t help but think.
Sinu takes a deep breath and sighs before letting go of Aakash. “Okay everybody, you can head upstairs to cool off and calm down, I’m going to get Aakash to fix t-”
“Sinu…” Aakash interrupts but Sinu manages to keep going.
“He’s going to fix it and we-”
“SINU!”
“What!?” Sinu glares at Aakash.
“We need to talk. Privately.”
Sinu looks down at his feet, gently nudging the floor with the heel of his shoe. “Fine. Yans, make yourselves comfortable upstairs please. Help yourself to the tea and coffee.”
The Yans do as told and slowly make their way up, most everyone in silence. Brian can’t say anything else but simply, “What was that…”
Tortie mutters, “It was horrible. I can’t believe we could actually feel the pain.”
“...I wonder who had the worst. How did all of you guys… go?”
The Yans take a seat on the couch, the three-seat couch taken up fully by Seth and Jeb alone who are cuddling so hard it looks like they’re choking each other. The others take up residence in the other chairs and the open floor in front of the fireplace.
Tortie wraps her arm around Dani as the first Yan to die mumbles, “The Vuvuzela guy…”
Brian doesn’t hear much of what she says but he doesn’t want to ask her to say it again. Dani adds, “173, with Seth and Jeb, all three of us, gone in only a few seconds… Although the MTF...” and wouldn’t say any more than that.
Torrie shakes her head, “Shot before being electrocuted.”
Brian bites his lip, “Shot and then teleported. Damn the MTF. They’ve gotta learn to stop shooting people.”
Jeb giggles a little, Brian satisfied at making at least one person laugh. With just a giggle, everybody else seems to lighten up already. Although he says nothing about what went on in the Pocket Dimension. Everybody notices this omission, but nobody asks about it.
“So uh, what did you see after your death, Tortie?” Brian looks towards her and asks.
“It was terrible. So much pain then just, nothing. Like, I couldn’t feel, see, or anything. I couldn’t think or feel any emotions. I was just there in pitch black darkness for what felt like hours, like I wasn’t alive, but I wasn’t dead, either. Like maybe I didn’t even exist. Then suddenly I’m here. What happened anyway?” Tortie asks, hoping to not talk any more as her voice is getting squeaky from all the speaking. Brian looks around, avoiding eye contact, “I don’t know much but… I know that everyone died except Sinu. I’m glad he made it though.”
“Glad? Sheesh Brian, none of us would be here right now without him. He may have sacrificed me, but he did save all of our lives.” Tortie speaks up, not planning to but not being able to help herself.
“We’re in this mess because of Sinu.” Torrie adds, her sentence turning into a little mumble.
As she says it, Sinuyan walks in, Aakash right beside him. “Guys…”
Torrie looks down and sighs, knowing her mistake and of course regretting it. Sinuyan doesn’t notice and continues, “We have a bigger problem.”
“A bigger problem? Oh blimey…” Jeb mutters under her breath, barely audible for others to hear.
“I know… I really know how much you guys hate what happened back there. But, we need to go back through the teleporter.”
“WHAT!?” Every Yan exclaims, their attention immediately pointing to Sinuyan, even Torrie who previously had her head down now looks up at Sinuyan with menacing eyes, not wanting to go back to the horrors that lie behind the holographic door.
“Yans… That lightning storm triggered something. It didn’t just affect the teleporter, and us. It affected the data files and now…” He struggles to continue speaking, the Yans all waiting for any response from him now.
“Aakash had already downloaded games, this is not his fault. He downloaded… L4D2, Lone Survivor, DayZ and Slender. I…just… Jesus Christ I can’t do this.” He throws up his hands in frustration, trying to think of the appropriate words to say.
“You can do it Sinu…” Dani gently urges him on.
“Okay, this is terrible, I know, but you guys need to stay. I need your help. The electricity corrupted the data of the files and the monsters in the games are now a lot smarter. Including Slenderman. This sounds crazy but, he’s loose.”
“Wait, hold up. Sinu, what do you mean by ‘loose?’ Clarify these things.” Torrie asks.
“He’s not in his game. He’s not in the data. He’s somewhere. In the forest around us, maybe.”
Brian stands up from his seat, his hands motioning with his voice. “So you’re saying we’ve let out a mad killer that can kill any of us at any time?”
“Uh… yeah... I’m so sorry Yans but, we need to go back through the teleporter. We need to play the games, together, and we need to finish them all before we can gain access to Slenderman’s original forest. The only way we can catch his attention and send him back to the data files he belongs in is by angering him. And everyone knows how to do that. We have to collect the pages. Then we collect the rest of the pages in his game and we safely make it back out. We’ll destroy the teleporter and we will never touch it again. I am really sorry Yans, I wish I didn’t have to do this to you all but… are you guys up for it?”
The Yans all look at each other, Jeb clinging to Seth, shaking her head, not wanting to even think of going back to such a treacherous state, never wanting to experience the loss of her loved one ever again. With that she gets up, picks Seth up and takes him to their bedroom, wanting some time to think in peace without being stared at by everyone else.
Brian places his head in his hands. “Argh… Sinu, I… I don’t know. I mean, SCP: CB has gotta be the worst out of all those games you listed right?”
“I think so. L4D2 might be equal to it though. There are more enemies but they’re weaker. DayZ has a lot of zombies but we can easily avoid them if we’re careful. I don’t know exactly how we can beat DayZ though.” The question lingers as Sinu turns to Aakash for an answer.
“I can… alter the data so to win you need to pick up a special item or something. But I can’t do anything really overpowered or anything. I’m not THAT good at all this data coding stuff.” He scratches the back of his head, rustling his black hair similar to Sinu’s.
The door to the house suddenly swings open. “We all heard what you said,” an unknown voice says. Three people walk in, each one holding a suitcase. The latecomer Yans. “And we’re going to help!” Sam exclaims and smiles, Emily and Mega beside him.
