Note to readers: Okay... Yeah. This took a while. BUT DON'T BLAME ME. *points finger at Dani repeatedly* Anyway, certainly a few twists in the story but I can't wait for you guys to find out what happens!
Chapter 6 - Obturating Teleport Fail
The door to the house suddenly swings open. “We all heard what you said.” An unknown voice says. Three people walk in, each one holding a suitcase. The latecomer Yans. “And we’re going to help!” Sam exclaims and smiles, Emily and Mega beside him.
“Sam! Emily! Mega!!” Dani exclaims, her voice getting progressively louder with each name called out. “Oh my gosh, you made it!”
Sam smiles, “Heck yeah, we did! And I brought a gun!”
Sinu stares at Sam, his jaw dropping. “You didn’t really… did you?”
Sam takes a large object out of the open bag on his back. It’s a gun, but it’s yellow. “Sorta. It’s a nerf gun but hey! Same thing right? It shoots projectiles. Just make the projectiles a little sharper and we’ll see how we go with it.”
“You’re crazy!” Sinuyan laughs.
Emily hugs many of the female Yans in the group, every Yan being extremely affectionate and welcoming of each other. Mega has his hands in the pockets of his black trousers, matching his black shirt, his black shoes and his black hair, looking like a walking piece of uncut fabric, the only thing not black is his white pale skin.
“Huh...? Where’s my cousin?” Sam asks as his head turns left and right.
“Cousin? Your cousin is here!?” Sinuyan replies.
“Haha, yeah, it's Jeb!”
“Oh. She’s in the bedroom with Seth.”
“Probably doing naughty stuff I bet.” He sticks his tongue out cheekily.
“Oh God...” Sinu shakes his head. Fire looks up at Emily who stands ready to hug her. “Emily!” She smiles and continues, “Why are you guys late?”
“Loooong story! We might have gotten lost.” She smiles awkwardly and scratches the back of her head.
“Of course you’d get lost!” Fire laughs, seemingly cheered up, despite the traumatic experience that happened less than an hour ago.
“Hey, Sam- Wait, where did he go?” Mega looks around. The rest of the Yans do the same, and Sam no where in sight.
“He probably went to go peek in on Seth and Jeb. Bad idea. I bet they’re still shaken up seeing as they’re so close and all. I don't blame them.” Dani pouts.
“They’ll be fine. Seth can cheer up quite quickly. I know this very well.” Torrie mutters.
“Ack!!” A scream is heard from down the hallway, everyone’s attention drawn to the sound. It’s Jeb. “Oi! Don’t walk in on us when we’re in here!! ...No we weren’t having sex! Gosh what is wrong with yo- Sam? Oh this makes it even better!!” She sarcastically yells.
Sam’s laughter is heard, soon joined in by Jeb who seems to fortunately have fun joking around.
Dani rolls her eyes and goes to see what has happened. Ignoring the commotion, Tortie looks over at Emily, “So, you want to help us huh?” The conversation turns a little more to the serious side. She smiles, “We do! We heard everything.”
“I don’t think you should, honestly.” Tortie replies, her voice sounding a little uncomfortable.
“Hey, I don’t care what it takes. Me and Mega are prepared. We’re going to work together and we’ll go through that teleporter with you whether you want our help or not!”
Sinuyan stands up from his seat. “Emily, Mega… You do realise the consequences?”
Emily looks at him, her dirty blonde wavy hair following the movement of her head. “Consequences?”
“Uh, how do I say this. We have some sort of a… cancer, as Aakash describes it. Our DNA has changed to affect our physical bodies. We all have some sort of ability that others can’t do.”
“I can heal people.” Fire mumbles.
“I can hear things other people can’t.” Torrie adds.
Sinuyan continues, “I don’t want anything to happen to you guys.”
“Healing? Hearing?” Emily looks down to think. “Hm…”
“Sounds awesome!” Mega exclaims, a wide grin on his face. Emily smiles as well, wrapping her arm around her partner, Mega.
Sinuyan tilts his head, “Really? Because usually a person’s reaction to Cancer would be like, death or something. We don’t know what this really does to us.” All the Yans affected by the cancer look down, unknown to their future fate and if anything bad will happen to them. Seth, Jeb, Dani and Sam walk into the living room, Jeb carrying Seth as she mumbles, “Why do we all suddenly look upset?”
None of the Yans answer. “Uh… okay. Wrong thing to ask.” She turns back around and heads towards her room, Dani quickly grasping her shoulder. “Not so fast!”
“Whaaa… I was having fun!”
“Doing what? Missy?”
“Don’t you start with the sex thing like yesterday.” They both giggle, the other Yans once again lifting their mental selves up, showing through their physical state, their bodies straightened, with smiles on a few of their faces.
Sinuyan laughs, “Okay, okay… We have to get the newcomers settled in. What time is it?” He pulls out the phone from his black trousers and answers his own question. “24 past 9.”
“Wow! That late already? I need to sleep.” Jeb blinks a few times.
“Sleep? It’s only 9pm and you want to sleep?” Torrie seems baffled.
“What? I’m an early bird!” She looks down at Seth in her arms and proceeds to talk in a very high-pitched voice. “Does my wittle Sethycakes wanna sweep with her wittle wifey-wifey?”
He smiles and simply nods, blushing a little.
“Sweep? What?” Mega seems confused. Dani snickers. “Don’t worry. Jeb’s just activated her cute innocent adorable voice feature.”
Jeb starts nuzzling her boyfriend in her arms. A mumble is heard from Torrie as she stares at her phone, “Damn. No reception.”
“No reception?” Sinu looks at her oddly. “But, I swear I could get reception here before. Whatever, I’ll get Aakash to look into this. The strike might have damaged something else in this house.”
“Mansion.” Jeb corrects him.
“Well, It’s styled like one but not the size.”
“Are you kidding? It’s huge!”
Sam butts in. “Well, You are small, cuz cuz.”
“Oi! Dammit, if I wasn’t holding Seth I’d slap you right now.” She laughs.
The Yans continue to joke around, their conversation becoming lighter and lighter till it seems as though their problems are just gone, simply fading into nothing. By the time it’s 11pm, almost all of the Yans are in bed, and Emily, Mega and Sam are in their own suited comfortable beds. The only Yans awake are Torrie and Sinu who both sip away at a hot drink in the living room.
Sinu looks at her. “How are you holding up?”
“Oh, I’m okay.”
“That’s good. You’re not bothered by the cancer thing at all?”
“I sorta am. But, I don’t know. I don’t feel any different. I don’t have any symptoms of a cancer, and I feel fine. But I just hear things so differently. I can hear things as if I was a rabbit or a dog.”
“That must feel extraordinarily weird.”
“It really is.” Torrie takes another sip of her warm tea, the cup half empty.
Sinuyan yawns. “Well, we should go to bed.”
“We should.” With that, Torrie gulps down the rest of her tea, not bothering to be patient with it anymore. Sinuyan stands up and stretches before taking Torrie’s cup, placing both his and hers in the kitchen sink ready to be washed later. “Goodnight, Torrie.”
“Goodnight.” Torrie replies and heads off to her room.
Sinuyan, standing over the sink, rubs his forehead with his forearm. He sighs and thinks to himself about the mess he’s in, what’s happened and what is to come, and if the Yans will ever be safe again. He wonders about the future.

A scream comes from Jeb’s room, not at all similar to the playful shriek from yesterday. Sam sits up in bed, looking around, hearing the sound directly below him, being on the second floor. He quickly throws the blanket off him, opens the door, runs down the hallway, down the stairs, and towards Jeb’s and Seth’s room.
He swings open the door as fast as he can, looking towards the bed. Jeb and Seth remain in bed under the covers, Jeb quivering and shaking in Seth’s arms. Sam puffs out, “Are you okay? I heard a scream!“
“Oh my gosh… ” Jeb says shakily.
“Jeb?”
She hides under the blanket, Seth rubbing her back.
Sam sighs at the lack of response and information. “Tell me? Please? What happened?”
Seth whispers something to Jeb, she pauses before nodding. Seth replies, “She found her cancer ability, except for her, it’s not mental. It’s physical.”
“Physical? Like what? Wings? An extra arm? 500 fingers? What is it!?” Sam urges.
He lifts his hand up from under the bed covers and shows Sam what appears to be a long slender slippery tendril, grey and about the thickness of an average sized pole. The tip of it flickers, flapping up and down like the tail of a cat.
Sam gasps, “Oh my god. What is that? Wait, where’s that coming from? Is it something I don’t want to know?”
“It’s from her back. She has…” he counts, “six of them.”
“SIX!?” Sam says a bit too loudly. Dani walks in. “What’s going on!? People are trying to slee… “ Dani stares with wide eyes at Jeb, her tendrils laid out on the bed by Seth, all leading to her spine. “What…?”
Jeb squeals, but not in a happy way. “I’m not comfortable with so many people in here. I’m half naked for crying out loud!”
Dani immediately walks out without another word, but Sam huffs as he walks out. “Who sleeps naked? I’m sure you two are up to something.” He closes the door, Dani and Sam talking to each other very quietly as to not disturb anyone nearby.
Seth looks at Jeb and back to her tendrils before smiling. “I think they’re cute!”
Jeb is, however, not amused. “How though? I mean, how did I get these? In only a night!”
“Maybe they formed in your back over time and eventually sprouted.”
“Sprouted? What am I, a plant now?”
“My Mincey plant!” Seth calls her by her little couple nickname.
She quiets down and remains that way, Seth moving a little closer to her. He holds her by her waist and gently kisses her, lips caressing hers. They close their eyes. Seth asks, “Can you move them?”
“I don’t know…”
Seth looks around before setting his eyes on the alarm clock nearby. It’s 3am. “Darling, we should sleep.”
“How am I supposed to sleep with these things!?” She exclaims quietly, tears building up in her eyes. As much as she likes all slimy and slippery and tendril-like things, she’d never expected to actually grow a few pairs.
Seth hushes her and holds her close to him, rubbing her back, the parts where her tendrils don’t jut out from her flesh. “It’s going to be okay~”
“It sorta hurts…”
“What does?”
“My back. It feels like they’ve just ripped through my skin…” She whimpers.
“Ouch. Oh, you poor thing. How about, you lie on your side and I’ll massage your back and keep you safe!”
She nods and does as told, lying on her side so her back is facing her boyfriend, his loving tender touch grasping onto the base of her tendrils, gently caressing them and lovingly squeezing them occasionally until Jeb is relaxed enough to doze off.
In the morning, Jeb is awoken by the sound of knocking at her bedroom door. She rubs her eyes, and Seth wakes up too. They hear Sinu; "Hey, you two in there?"
"Yeah! Hold on." Seth calls out, Jeb barely able to keep her eyes open.
"I heard about Jeb. Is she okay?"
"Yeah, just shaken up."
Seth finds a small grey long sleeved shirt and slips it onto Jeb before scavenging around the room for a certain tool. Seth continues, "You can come in now!"
Sinu slowly opens the door, Jeb resting on the covers of the bed, her tendrils bulging out uncomfortably from the bottom of her shirt. Sinu freezes and stares at her, her eyes closed, mumbling as she appears half asleep, half awake. "Are they... tendrils? Wow, they really are."
"Six of them. Just sprung out last night. Really strange!" Seth mutters as he continues to look around.
"Does she have a Slenderman cancer or something? What's going on here?"
"Uh. Have you seen a pair of scissors?"
"In the kitchen yeah. Uh, why?" Sinu continues.
Suddenly his eyes grew wide. “Wait. She’s not… turning into Slenderman, is she?” He takes a few steps back as Seth barges through the door, walking into the kitchen rummaging through the drawers as Sinu is left looking between Jeb and Seth repeatedly. “Seth? Your silence is worrying.”
Seth passes by him and walks over to his girlfriend. “She’s not turning into Slenderman.”
“Oh okay, that’s a good thing. But how do you know?”
Seth rolls his eyes. “It’s a cancer! Not a potion or curse or mutation.”
Seth gently nudges Jeb awake with his delicate touch. Jeb’s eyes open quite quickly, blinking a few times as she looks around. “Seth? And… Sinu?” With Jeb looking towards the doorway, Seth takes the opportunity to sit behind her. He takes the scissors from the kitchen and starts snipping away at her shirt to create six holes that he uncomfortably squeezes Jeb’s tendrils through till they’re neatly hanging behind her.
Sinuyan decides the two can handle themselves from here, and leaves the room, closing the door behind him.
Jeb yawns and looks towards Seth. “Was all that a dream?”
He shakes his head and holds out a tendril for her to see.
“Oh… Now that I think about it, and now that it’s not hurting anymore, it’s kinda cool!” Jeb smiles and gives Seth a small little kiss on the cheek before getting up, swaying a little as she tries to balance out her new body weight. Seth scratches the back of his head. “Eh… Can you move them? Or are they just, there?” He laughs nervously.
“I think I can, but they feel really… tired? Clamped up. Like how when you run for a few kilometres and your legs get tired.”
“How much is a few kilometres in miles?” Seth asks with a grin on his face. Jeb giggles.
“Oh, you stop that.”
“Stop what?”
“You know what!”
“I don’t know what!”
Jeb shakes her head and leads Seth out to the hallway, Jeb stopping, Seth still walking. They see about three quarters of the Yans already seated in the living room. Seth looks around. “So we’re all here?”
“We are now! Is Jeb alright?” Dani asks with a hint of worry.
“Mhm. Come on, Mince~” Seth urges her out of her hiding spot in the hallway. She shuffles awkwardly over to Seth, immediately taking her new hiding spot behind him, her thin body making the attempt quite successful other than her legs which almost look as though they’ve been glued together and nailed to the floor.
Tortie, being the Yan at the end of the set of chairs and couches, leans to the side to try and catch a glimpse of Jeb. She squints as she sees Jeb’s tendrils, almost in disbelief. “What the…”
“What is it Tortie?” Mega looks towards her, Tortie not looking away.
“I… Uhm. Jeb. There’s something on your back.”
Jeb looks over to Tortie and hisses before burrowing her face into Seth’s back. Tortie leans back in her chair from the surprise offense and blinks a few times in shock. “W-Well then. I won’t ask. Sorry!”
Seth looks over his shoulder. “Jeb, be nice.” He turns back to his audience. “Okay! Yans! Do not be alarmed but my girlfriend is now a monster thing and I like it! So nobody make fun of her!”
A few of the Yans laugh, Dani ‘aww-ing’ a little. Torrie asks, “So the cancer hit her too?”
“Of course.” Seth replies and steps to the side, revealing Jeb shivering in her stand, her tendrils are poised up behind her, each one curling in a different direction, still and frozen in the air.
One of her dark grey slippery tendrils flops onto her shoulder, Jeb looks at it, seemingly unphased by it, as Tortie, Torrie and basically every girl sits back in their seat as far as they can. The only girl not retreating is Dani who seems rather used to it because of the encounter early in the morning.
“Doesn’t that feel weird?” Fire murmurs.
“No, it just feels like another few pairs of arms.”
“Another few pairs of arms!?” Brian chuckles and shakes his head. “Another few pairs of arms she says…”
“Hey! Shut up! You don’t know what it’s like to have slime dripping onto your spine whilst you try and sleep so just… UGH!” Jeb snaps and stomps off to her room.
Sam mumbles, “Well SOMEONE’S on her period.”
Dani gasps in offense. “Sam! That was horribly rude! Anybody would be upset about this whether or not they have raging hormones.” She glared at Sam a bit, making sure her intent was clear.
“Okay, okay, jeesh, I’m sorry I said that.” Dani smiled at his apology and punched him in the arm lightly. Seth, being the loving boyfriend, follows after Jeb to cheer her up, leaving Sinu and the Yans in the lounge.
“Sorry, Yans. Anyway, other than that certainly different event… We have another game to organise. I know you guys haven’t had much rest but we do need to finish these games as soon as possible. Next up would have to be Left for Dead Two, which is going to be quite a challenge. But I can get Aakash to easily alter it so that all of us will be the survivors! That way there’s more of a chance of surviving. It will be easy, trust me!”
“Can he really do that?” Dani tilts her head, a little confused on how he would perform such a feat.
“I hope so!” Sinuyan nervously laughs; “Ehh… I don’t know. It’s Aakash. Aakash can do anything!”
Dani smiles. “Well, I trust you completely, if you say it will be easy, then it will be easy!”
The rest of the Yans nod in agreement, and Sinuyan gets a little choked up. “Thanks, you guys…”
Mega pipes up. “How long do we wait then until we go?”
Aakash walks in with his hands in white gloves and his body wrapped in a loose white lab coat. “One hour! The coding is fairly easy cause it’s a Source engine and it’s free for anyone to fiddle around with. Open Source.”
“Jeb would understand this completely!” Sam exclaims, knowing what Jeb does for a boring living, coding.
“I’ll get to it!” Aakash smiles.
A few sandwiches and an hour later, the Yans step through the portal, the new Yans a little hesitant at first, with the Yans that had experienced the worst pain even more hesitant. But with enough encouragement and moral support, the Yans walk through the portal, but not so eager to jump into it this time.
“Seth!?” Jeb screams, banging on the iron door that leads out into the huge mall, filled with hundreds and hundreds of hungry zombies readying themselves to feast. Sinuyan looks around the room, Brian and Fire doing the same, all looking for weapons and items to equip themselves with. There’s no one else in the room but them; Jeb, Sinu, Brian and Fire. Jeb starts crying. “Noooo! What happened to Seth! I thought you said the code would work you freaking bi-”
Fire simply hugs Jeb, immediately calming her down, Jeb no longer banging her fist against the door. “Hey… It’s okay… Shhhh…”
A loud buzz is heard from Sinuyan’s pocket. The Yans look at him as he pulls out a small black walkie-talkie, the light on it green, indicating a signal is coming through. Sinuyan turns on the microphone. “Hello?”
“Sinu! I’m glad the walkie-talkies can work from there, but that’s not important right now. Something’s gone wrong!” Aakash answers.
“Again!? What now?” Sinu exclaims, really not prepared for another accident.
“The others… I am so sorry, I don’t know how this happened but the game has switched its gamemode.”
“What gamemode did it…?” Sinu stutters as he asks.
“Versus.”
“WHAT!?” All the Yans exclaim.
Aakash groans and taps the walkie-talkie, coming out as a few bangs on the speakers. “You four have been randomly chosen to go through this. The others… the coding has overwritten them. They still see and feel and everything, but they can’t control themselves. I am SO sorry! You need to get through this, but please, PLEASE stay safe you guys!”
“Wait, how do we win then?”
“You four get to the safe zone. If one of the other Yans die, they die, they don’t come back but they can’t win the game either. It’s up to you four.”
“Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh.” Jeb shakes her head repeatedly, not ready to battle the huge hordes of enemies ahead without her faithful boyfriend.
“And Sinu…” Aakash mutters.
“Yeah?”
“...It’s in realism mode.”
The walkie-talkie cuts off.
Note to readers: For those who don't get the sudden "DUN-DUN-DUN" at the end, I'll explain. In L4D2 usually objects glow, even characters showing off their health status and witches usually tear people's eyes out (not literally, they just down the player). BUT, In Realism all this is OFF. No seeing where other players are, no clue where items may be and witches will kill you... instantly. Beware, players~ >:3
