Sinuyan – The Yans’ story
Chapter 3 - A grands maux, grands remèdes (Desperate illness, heroic treatment.)
Fire screams, “Torrie! Watch out!”
They all hear it. The buzzing from the Tesla gate.
Torrie jumps back and falls over, almost whimpering as she squeaks, “W-What the heck!! How did I not notice that!?”
Fire crawls to her side and rests her hand on Torrie’s shoulder as she comforts her. “Are you okay? You didn’t get shocked, did you? I tried to warn you as fast as I could-”
“She’d be dead by now if she got shocked,” Brian interrupts. “She’s talking, so obviously she’s alive.”
Fire stands up angered, forgetting about her concern for Torrie. She confronts Brian head-on. “Now that was a bit rude! Why are you so apathetic about this?”
“Hey, I was just stating a fact. And I’m not apathetic, if anything I’m just being calm and straight-minded!”
“You can’t joke about death like that! This is our friend we’re talking about, remember?”
“And I do care! But it was no big deal! And in this game, death won’t hurt!”
Fire lowered her voice and became totally serious. “What do you know? What if you’re wrong?”
Silence. Brian keeps his stare with Fire, slowly coming to realize his first thoughts may not be right. Aakash never mentioned anything about pain. Though Brian doesn’t apologize. Fire turns around, breaking their glare and taps her foot repeatedly against the floor near the empty wall. Brian looked down to his shoes, lost in his own thoughts. Torrie was shaking still on the floor; like a little girl lost in the street on a rainy cold night. “L-Let’s just go, p-please?” She stutters and stands up, trying to regain her balance, almost falling over. Fire goes over towards her comrade and helps her keep stable. Brian snaps out of his own world and offers to help but Fire quickly huffs at him, snapping a glare at him to tell him to back off.
“Can you run, Torrie?” Fire asks soothingly.
“I-I think. I mean, I’ve got the adrenaline.”
“Alright. Be careful.” Fire lets go of her friend, stands near the tesla gate and keeps her eyes shut tight as she waits for it to buzz. She hears the powerful electricity buzzing through the gate and steps back, the whirring of the electricity simmering down. She lowers her voice, sounding disappointed. “Grrr, this is too much… I can’t go near that thing.” Fire gives up and walks over to the corner of the room where she keeps a close watch on the gate.
Brian rolls his eyes and bravely walks towards the gate. He examines the sides and gets close enough for it to activate. The whirring sound gets louder and louder, and fearlessly, Brian stands his ground. Zaps of light zip from one side of the gate to the other rapidly, lighting up the hallway, all the way to the end where the other door is. Through the deadly gate, the trio can see that the other door opens.
“W-Woah, what…?” Fire yells out. She turns to Torrie. “Did you see that?” Torrie nodded, and her eyes close to mere slits, and peers into the distance to try to see who was there. Brian concentrates, completely unaware of what was going on, too focused to care. The whirring slows down. Brian makes his move and dashes past the gate easily, causing the gate to trigger again behind him. The light generated from the gate sends more jolts of light out, bounding against the walls, revealing the open door ahead of Brian.
Brian gives a smirk to Fire before turning back towards the door. “Hey, lookie who wasn’t a chicken and got past the… oh no,” Brian finally notices the open door. “Please say SCP-173 is not in there…” Brian starts feeling incredibly uncomfortable. Frozen with uncertainty, he’s unable to move anywhere, stuck in place, staring at the door, just in case. Fire stumbles over to the gate and gets ready for her turn. She follows Brian’s tactic, getting close enough, trying to achieve bravery. Fire’s agile nature lets her achieve it. She dashes past the gate till she’s by Brian’s side, the adrenaline in her body allowing her to sprint to the door ahead and shut it immediately, not wanting to know what’s in the room ahead.
Torrie looks up at the two, only barely able to see her friends in front of her, with the gate not active and bright anymore. With enough encouragement, Fire and Brian beckon Torrie to pass the gate. Torrie, now over her scare from earlier, regains her poise and simply walks through the gate, timed to perfection. The trio is reunited now, past the barrier, but the next door still lies ahead. The door that was already waiting for them.
Tortie shivers and mutters, “So, uh… who wants to go first?”
Dani looks at the door ahead and laughs nervously. “Alrighty, so. This shouldn’t be too hard with three people, I mean three of us against one of it? We’ll be fine! Two people can watch SCP, and someone who is rather quick can get the supplies. Sounds like a plan?”
“Sounds good.” Sinuyan compliments.
“I’ll watch 173.” Tortie volunteers without hesitation.
Sinuyan nods. “So will I. I guess that leaves you to get the supplies. Search everywhere. We can’t afford to miss ANYTHING.” He emphasises the last word, leaving it imprinted in Dani’s mind.
“I’ll try my best!” Dani salutes and takes a deep breath, while thinking, ‘why me? I can’t run to save my life, let alone two other people!’ They all look to each other, making sure that everyone is ready for the challenge. Sinuyan opens the door, and him and Tortie immediately run down the stairs, Sinuyan looking to the left, Tortie looking to the right.
Tortie jumps a little at the sight of SCP-173 even though prepared, still not keen to see the monster. But yet, it’s better than not knowing where it is. Sinuyan reacts to her jump and walks over to Tortie to help her out. Both of them keep their eyes on 173, and Sinuyan says, “Blink.” Tortie blinks, fully trusting Sinuyan to keep his eyes open and trained on 173. They swap turns blinking with one another until they develop a pattern, leaving SCP-173 frozen in place, unable to move. Dani takes the chance and jumps down the stairs, not afraid of hurting herself, despite her dangerous past with stairs. She looks around and quickly makes her way to the small hallway behind the staircase There’s a red light inside, showing off the doorway so it’s easy to see. Inside, the floors are even messier than the hallway above, with boxes, file cabinets, desks and chairs filling the room, all cluttered unevenly. Dani, who is already out of breath, probably from fear and not from running, immediately starts to examine the area. She spots a key card and immediately grabs it without a second glance. She finds another gas mask and excitedly picks it up. Dani strains her vision down the hall, looking for more equipment. She spies something on a shelf at the end of the hallway; two batteries.
She quickly darts over to the end of the room, concentrating on nothing but getting the batteries. She reaches them, but as she reaches for them, she screams, drawing Tortie’s active gaze away from 173 and into the hallway. Sinuyan yells out, “Tortie! What are you doing!? I need to blink!”
“But Dani-”
“Tortie!” Sinu yells louder, forcing Tortie’s gaze to return to SCP 173 so Sinu can blink. He relaxes a little, and yells out, “Dani!? Are you alright?”
In the hallway, Dani stands perfectly still, shaking as the batteries in front of her start to levitate. She puts her hands over her mouth and mutters, “W-What the…?” The batteries float with Dani’s body, following her movement. They move up and down, as if something was holding it and breathing. They turn when Dani turns, and rotate when she rotates. “Oh my gosh, I’m doing this. Don’t tell me I’ve become-” Dani takes a step back from the batteries and steps on some trash, making her lose her footing, drawing her attention from the batteries. They drop down onto the shelf, one rolling off onto the floor.
She tilts her head in a panicked confusion and watches the batteries again as they start to rise up in the air. Dani, still not used to the abnormal behaviour, squeaks, trying to keep her head straight. She bites her lip. Curious, she tries moving her hands slowly, but the batteries seem to do nothing. The confused young lady moves her arm forward, and the batteries immediately slam into the wall, sending a loud bang through the hallway and room with Tortie and Sinuyan.
Sinuyan yells out again. “Dani!?” They continue their blink routine. Dani ignores his call, and starts to experiment. Dani raises her arm up and back, slowly, the batteries following, floating towards her until they’re only a meter away. Ever so carefully, she reaches out for the batteries and grabs them both. She blinks a couple of times. “There’s no way...”
Sinuyan, worried, calls out again. “Dani!”
Dani snaps back into reality and looks around. “Sinu? Oh my gosh, guys!”
“What’s wrong? What happened?”
Dani jumps over the mess on the floor and makes her way to her friends, holding off the enemy for everyone’s survival. “You won’t believe what just happened!”
“What? Are you okay?” Sinuyan says without breaking eye contact with 173.
“I’m fine! But did Aakash add any mods to this game or, or something? I’m kinda freaking out here!”
“Huh? What are you talking about?”
“I swear I-”
“GUYS!” Tortie yells out, grabbing both their attention before adding, “You’re not the only one freaking out! 173 is RIGHT THERE, remember?! Let’s get out of here first before we start discussing anything!”
They all agree and slowly walk backwards up the stairs, not wanting to take their eyes off the concrete being. The group reach the door, hastily walk through it and quickly close it behind them, leaving the SCP alone in the room below, unable to hurt anyone. Sinuyan lets out a sigh. Dani takes no time to start her story. “You won’t believe this! I did something, I don’t really know what though. I found two batteries in the hallway and I reached out to get them-”
Tortie interrupts. “Yeah, about that, what did you get? How about another gas mask or something?”
“Yeah, yeah, I got a gas mask and a key card, but anyways, back to what I was saying. I reached for the batteries and they suddenly levitated! I KID YOU NOT, THEY FLOATED IN THE AIR!”
Tortie gave a sarcastic chuckle. “That’s nonsense. You sure it wasn’t a graphical glitch or something?”
“Does THIS look like a face that doesn’t know what levitating is?” Dani gives Tortie the kind of “derpy” look that Sinu made when he had monopoly money thrown at him, a short video he made for his Yans a while ago. Tortie shakes her head. “Alright, did YOU do it or the game?”
“I’m pretty sure I did it…” Dani takes out the two batteries from her pocket. “Let’s see if I can try it again!”
Sinuyan isn’t patient enough to test what might just have been a glitch. “Dani, we don’t have time for that. It’s probably just another glitch, I mean we all know how broken this game is. We should start off again, we can’t waste any more time. This isn’t for entertainment anymore. It’s survival and we need to get out of here.” Sinuyan promptly takes the lead toward the next room, with Tortie and a disappointed Dani following behind.
“We should go.” Jeb says softly. Seth looks up at her, his eyes wide in fear.
“G-Go? B-But, I want to stay here…”
“Shhh. We can’t. We have to help and find the others. We’ll be safer away from here.”
“Why not?” Seth whimpers and looks up at his girlfriend as she kisses him gently on his forehead.
“108. You know. The guy that can walk through walls. He’ll come soon. And I don’t want to die here. We’ve got to go.”
Seth looks away and sighs, trying to calmly recollect his thoughts and organise them, figuring out what to do. “O-Okay.”
“Thank you,” Jeb mutters and helps him up, slowly leading him out. Once in the hallway, Jeb kisses Seth’s cheeks and gently whispers, “Stay here, just for a second. I promise I’ll be right back.”
Seth looks into Jeb’s eyes for a moment, then nods.
His girlfriend looks around before heading into the men’s bathroom. Slowly she turns the corner, and looks down at the floor. She sees what she expected. The dead body of a guard, a gun in his hand, blood spilled on the floor, coming from the side of his head. Gruesome to look at, Jeb covers her mouth and nose with the back of her hand before walking over to the corpse’s side. She slowly bends down, trying to not look at the guard, and takes the gun out of his hand, her arm shaking uncontrollably.
A loud buzzing is heard, and everyone listens. Aakash’s voice follows it. “Yans! I’ve figured out the problem. The lightning storm yesterday struck our house pretty bad. It connected to the wires and messed with the teleporter! I didn’t know until now, when I sent you through it said it was fine! I can’t explain much, I’m going to be cut off soon. I’m sorry guys, but if anything weird happens, it’s not the game. It’s probably you. The electricity running through the teleporter is contaminated! Everyone who went through the portal has been, uh… how do I say this. It’s like a mutation, it probably affected your DNA. The mutation shouldn’t hurt you, but it may be very strange, and there’s going to be side effects. I’ve managed to cut out some script and edited the ending of the game, so it will be easier to beat. And it sounds crazy, but death wo-” And just like that, he’s cut off.
After hearing the message, Jeb sighs and looks at herself, her body standing over the guard. She gently touches the side of her head, trying to not face the fact of having maybe gone through a mutation. Aakash did say maybe, so there’s a possibility that she’s still herself, right? Jeb bites her lip and shakes it off. She resumes her task and quickly walks out of the bathroom, holding the gun confidently in her hand. Jeb examines the gun. It’s a small pistol, with 4 bullets inside. She’s unsure of what to do with it, knowing that it’s useless against almost every SCP and only a little bit effective on the MTF, but she knows that having any weapon is better than having none.
Jeb rejoins Seth, who questioningly tilts his head, and looks at the small handgun. “A gun? You know how to use it?”
“Can’t be hard can it?”
“...Guess not. Come on, let’s go.” Seth doesn’t make any mention of what Aakash just said, maybe in too shaken a state to hear what was said.
Jeb takes her boyfriend’s hand and guides him to the end of the hallway. She opens the door and freezes. A tesla gate is heard just as the door opens. Jeb immediately crawls into the corner with Seth, holding him close to her body. “Shhh…” She whispers as she presses her ear up against the wall to listen.
Seth’s fear has not subsided, and it shows by the clattering of his teeth. “A-A tesla gate?”
“Yeah. It could be an SCP, or it could be the MTF. Either way, it’s not good.”
“Maybe we should close the door?”
“We’ll be spotted.”
Some shadows from the other room appear on the floor. “W-Woah, what! Did you see that!?” A voice is heard, saying, “Oh no. Please say SCP-173 is not in there.” A few seconds pass before steps are heard, and the door shuts. The tesla gate activates a few more times. Jeb shakes her head and slowly gets up, Seth panics and starts whimpering. Jeb immediately hushes him and kisses his forehead. “Shhh… It’s okay. I’ll protect us, stay right here.” Seth forces a small nod, but stays silent, not quite certain of how the next few seconds will play out.
Jeb takes a deep breath and stands in front of the door, with her feet shoulder-width apart, shoulders back, arms unlocked, and gun up. She’s pointing up where an average person’s head would be. She can almost hear her own heart thumping in her chest, scared but ready. She has a stern concentrated look on her face. She looks directly at Seth’s eyes, then at the door button, directing Seth to hit it for her while she stands at the ready. Seth hits it and quickly crawls up into a ball and closes his eyes, hands over his ears.
The door opens.
“GET DOWN ON THE FLOOR, NOW!” Jeb commands boldly.
Fire shrieks and jumps to the floor with Torrie, Brian however standing still, shocked to the point where he simply cannot make his body do what he tells it.
“GET ON THE FLOOR OR I’LL SHOOT!” Brian gains control of his hands and raises them into the air, barely able to see the figure in front of him.
“Wait wait, MTF! DON’T SHOOT! We’re not class D personnel or SCP!” Brian asks in an effort to not get shot.
“I’m not the MTF! Now did you not hear me? ON THE FLOOR!”
Brian takes a closer look at his attacker and noticed the figure looked awfully familiar. “...Jeb!” Jeb studies the pleading target and realizes he isn’t her enemy. She lowers her gun and walks forward, able to see Brian, Torrie and Fire crawled up on the floor.
“Oh thank God. I’m so glad it’s you guys. I’m so sorry I pointed the gun at you, I just didn’t want to take any chances.” Brian nods, Fire and Torrie slowly crawling up to stand, Seth scrambling behind his protector. “Have you guys seen Sinu, Dani or Tortie yet?” Jeb asks.
“Nope. The way back is just all dead ends. This is the only way forward,” Torrie replies.
“Good. I wasn’t looking forward to dashing through a tesla gate.” Jeb holds the gun by her side, now in a more vulnerable stance. Seth hugs her from behind to which she responds with a slight giggle. “Seeeth! What are you doing?” She asks playfully.
“Hugging.”
“Aww…”
Fire rolls her eyes and walks through the door to look around. “Hey, that’s the bathroom. Guess we’re heading straight!”
“No kidding. It’s not like we can go backwards.” Brian glares at Fire, still holding resentment from earlier. He starts making his way towards the end of the hallway, walking past Fire while shouldering her, going first. Jeb speaks up. “Hey… I don’t know what’s going on between you two, but maybe I should go first? I have a gun.”
Fire sounds more than delighted to let Jeb lead. Or rather, make sure Brian isn’t first. “Oh, sounds like a good idea actually! Lead on, Jeb. You’re obviously more suited to lead than some other person here.”
Brian just stops to let Jeb pass him, without turning around or saying anything to Fire.
Jeb takes on the leader role. She smiles humbly when she passes Brian in the hallway, not wanting to get in between whatever is taking place. The rest of the group follows. Past the bathrooms again, she gets to the next door. She takes a moment to ease herself back into a neutral mode and presses the button to open the door. She quickly scans the area, gun ready in her hands. Another straight hallway.
This time however, there’s a lone room on the left. SCP-012, the sign says. The deadly composition. Jeb tilts her head and walks over to the doorway. She holds out the gun and beckons Torrie, while motioning for the other three to go on ahead. “Here, take this. Be leader.”
“Wait what? What happened to you being leader? And why me?”
“I’ll take up the role later, there’s something I need to do alone. And I give it to you because I don’t want to choose a side on whatever war those two are fighting.”
Jas and Torrie casually sneak a glance at Fire and Brian, who are walking as close to the walls away from each other as possible.
“That’s kind of… a long story. Better not interfere for now.” Torrie glances at the door nearby, knowing what Jeb’s intentions are. She pulls out the level 2 key card she got a few rooms back, and hands it to Jeb. “Here, you’ll need this. I’ll take the gun, I trust in you, whatever you’re doing. But you better come back with all of your blood inside of you.”
Jeb just looks at Torrie, taking the card. “You don’t need to remind me, you can trust me. I won’t be long.”
Torrie doesn’t say anything. Believing in Jeb’s words, she takes the gun and checks the ammo before continuing on down the hallway, catching up with the others. Jeb looks at the sign. A small piece of paper, a composition, written in blood. It just now occurs to her that what Torrie said about her blood would sound really weird taken out of context. She swipes the key card, and a green bulb lights up, opening the door. She steps into the dark containment area. She eyes over the control panel on the wall near her, ignoring all the lights and levers. She finds a small key card, another level 2, which she takes. Jeb leaves the document of 012, knowing full well what it can do, thanks to Sinuyan.
She can’t help but notice an itchy sort of feeling. Not physically, but mentally. “I’m just going to take a look…” Jeb mutters to herself and walks nearer the composition, her eyes fix themselves onto the small glass container in the middle of the room, a dim light above it. She stands in front of it, examining the piece of art. Jeb runs her fingers along the glass case, looking at each part of the composition. The title, the key, the tempo. She tries playing it in her head, imagining herself playing the grand piano back home. The beautiful black instrument, creating the most beautiful sounds that she’s ever heard.
Suddenly her head starts to ache. She winces and bites her lip. “W-Why does it just end here?” She whispers to herself. Jeb looks hard at the composition, her mind filled with a blaring sound, blocking out all of the noise around her until she’s left with her own thoughts. “The end isn’t far from where it was left…”
Jeb rolls up her left sleeve and takes the small cloth sheave out of her pocket, she rolls it in her hands and slowly slides the knife out. “Only a few lines I’d say.” She bites her lip harder, not realising she’s drawing blood, the red liquid oozing out, dripping off her chin. She presses the sharp side of the knife against her left arm and makes a small cut. She winces in pain but keeps going, blood starting to fill the line she made.
“It won’t be much.” Jeb presses the knife in harder, penetrating past her outer skin and into her flesh. She drops the knife; it makes a loud clang as it hits the floor, blood splattering off the metal blade. “Just one note…” She places three of her fingers on her wound, very slowly curving them, pointing her nails to the cut. She thrusts her fingers hard into her flesh, blood now gushing out as she yelps. Crying from the pain but unable to stop, she starts to tear her skin as she slowly rips open the wound, she focuses onto the composition. She takes her dirtied fingers and starts to compose. A red note appears on the staff, then another, and another. Jeb smiles, happy with her contribution but not satisfied. She pushes harder, desperate for more ink.
“JEB!” Fire screams and grabs onto her shoulders, pulling her away from the glass case, dragging her out of the room, blood all over Jeb’s arm, dripping onto the floor and making a trail.
“No!!!” Jeb yells and continues, “YOU STOPPED ME!! I’M NOT DONE YET!!”
“SNAP THE FUCK OUT OF IT!” Fire enlists Torrie’s help to drag her down the hallway to where Seth stands, uncontrollably sobbing.
Jeb collapses on the floor, panting and wailing as the pain gets worse and worse. Fire kneels down and holds her hands and keeps her body still. Brian closes the door to SCP-012’s containment area, and Seth sits by his girlfriend’s side, sobbing and sniffing, resting his head on her stomach.
“Nooo… Jeb, why did you have to do thaaat!!” He wails.
Torrie, standing above Jeb, shakes her head and winces as Fire checks out the wound. Fire yells out, “Brian! Do you have a medkit? Torrie? SETH? ANYONE?” They all shake their heads in response.
“DAMMIT!” Fire exclaims. Jeb suddenly screams bloody murder, with Seth trying his best to comfort her. “Brian, you need to go find a medkit or something!”
“Hey, don’t you start telling me what to do, I-”
“I don’t CARE right now, Brian! Look, we need to get over this so we can save Jeb’s life. Obviously, she’s in pain, and dying. Sound familiar? Take Torrie and go find a medkit. She has the gun so you should be ok.”
Brian just stares a moment at Fire, just daring to challenge her order. But he decides now is not the time, and starts running to the unopened door with Torrie by his side. “I’m doing this for her, not because YOU told me to!”
Fire doesn’t respond, instead immediately turning back to Seth and Jeb.
“Seth, if you want to be helpful, you need to go-”
“NO!” Seth yells out. “I’m not leaving her!”
“Seth! If you want to do what’s best for her, go help-”
“STOP! I’m NOT leaving!!”
“JUST CALM DOWN AND LISTEN A SECOND! You don’t need to leave her, just keep an eye open on the doors, make sure nobody’s coming through them. You can do that for her, can’t you?”
Seth, still weeping, moves and sits with his back against the wall, moving Jeb’s head onto his lap, getting a good view of both doors in the hallway. Seth pants and cries harder, looking at Jeb’s afflicted face, hating to see his loved one in such a state. “Why…” He whimpers.
After easily and successfully passing the lockdown room, Tortie, Sinu and Dani are almost ready for anything. The “red-room”, as Dani calls it, was luckily completely empty, SCP-173 too occupied with the other room. It was a simple task to put on the two gas masks they’ve collected and run through the room, with the third person holding on to an arm so they knew where to run. They venture past a few hallways, a dead end, the hallway that leads into several locked offices, and they even find Gate B! It’s peaceful right now. No SCP-173 or 106, no MTF or sudden roars coming from the indestructible lizard. They make a mental map of where the gate is, needing to remember it later.
Dani sighs as the trio walks into yet another hallway, gloomy, but at least not lonely. “We’re going for Gate A, right? It’s the easiest choice. I think.”
Sinuyan replies. “I guess so. But we should wait for further instructions from Aakash first. He’s been trying to reach us, I know he is but he’s been having technical difficulties. And find the others.”
“A mutation though. Isn’t that what he said? I hope the side effects are good at least. I don’t want to be like, coughing up a lung for the rest of my life or, like, randomly pass out, or have hiccups for the rest of your life, or WHAT IF…!”
“Okay, that’s enough of that.” Tortie interrupts.
Dani sighs, not able to share what scenario she was thinking up next. “You’re right I guess. I wonder what’s in the next flipping empty hallway?” Dani asks Sinuyan as he reaches the door. He presses the button and looks through the hallway, used to preparing himself. Unfortunately, he wasn’t expecting what followed. They all walk through the door, and it closes behind them. A few windows dot the right side of the very small hall that’s smothered in blood. From inside the room next door, screaming is heard, and so is SCP-096. Dani faces the wall and shakes. “Oh god no, oh no oh no, why this! It was so peaceful! WHY!?”
Tortie looks down at the ground, even though the window’s being covered in what looks to be blood, she’s not risking seeing its face. Sinuyan looks at the door leading to SCP-096’s room. Technically it’s not his room, it’s unknown how he got in there. The screams get louder, and suddenly a loud snap is heard. Everyone winces as they hear the SCP rip the guard to shreds, bones snapping, limbs being crushed till there’s nothing left to break. There’s immediate silence.
Sinuyan closes his eyes, knowing the drill. The door automatically opens, SCP-096 wandering around the room in his docile state. “Both of you stay here. I’ll do this.”
Tortie questions, “Sinu, are you sure you want to even go in there?”
“I’m sure. If I agitate 096… get out of the place. Run. Close all the doors behind you.”
“Sinu! You can’t die! You’re the one that knows the most about this game!” Tortie pleads with Sinuyan, but his mind is made up.
“I built the teleporter, I invited you all. I’m doing this. I’d rather be the one to die than one of you. ”
Dani lets out a small whimper as she hears the word “you”. Tortie comforts her and gives her a hug. Without saying another word, Sinu looks down to the ground and opens his eyes before slowly walking into the blood-covered trap. He stays by the side, hoping to not walk into the monster. Hoping to not walk into the being that might take somebody’s life. He concentrates hard, successfully getting to the small room with the control panel in it without even catching a small glimpse of 096’s feet.
Sinuyan hesitates as he slowly looks up to the control panel. A few levers and buttons dot the wall. From his experience of the game, he switches the required mechanisms, and the doors unlock. He grabs a level 3 key card from the table, and lets out a sigh and starts walking back. Dani and Tortie don’t say a word; not moving, not breathing. One step, two steps, three steps. Sinuyan manages to make it back into the hallway safely. He smiles and opens the door before walking out. Dani lets go of Tortie’s arm that she was clinging to and follows Sinu. Tortie backs up from the wall and looks up… but she looks the wrong way.
The loud screaming from 096 is heard, and Sinu and Dani freeze in place.
Tortie cries out, “Oh freaking NO! IT WAS GOING SO SMOOTHLY!!! THIS ISN’T HOW I WANTED IT TO END! GUYS, HELP ME!!” She screams and runs to the exit where Dani and Sinuyan were. Sinu looks at Tortie, then at Dani, and curses under his breath. He quickly closes the door, leaving Tortie in the room with 096. She yells out, “OPEN THE DOOR, GUYS!” She starts to hyperventilate. “GUYS, THIS ISN’T FUNNY! OPEN IT-”
Sinuyan gets close to the door, and says, “Tortie! I’m so sorry!! This is how it’s going to have to be! I promise I’ll make this up to you when we exit the game. I really hope you won’t be able to feel the pain… I’m so sorry Tortie…” Sinu’s voice drains out, as Dani just stares wide-eyed at him and the door, speechless. Tortie, not able to look anywhere, closes her eyes and cries, as she slides down the door to her knees, banging repeatedly with some hope that the door will open up.
She bites her lip, sobbing harder and harder as she turns around to look at SCP-096. Taller than anything she’d ever seen, pale, extremely skinny with bones showing, and hands covering his face. Tortie’s scream is cut off.
